There are no significant invasive species around False Creek

question-mark

FALSE

Good news however: Maintenance by our City,
supplemented by volunteer groups, helps with this risk…

Did You Know…

5 different levels of priorities are identified by government?  Examples: Prevent (keep them out), Early detection & rapid response (EDRR) and even Regional containment.

Take Time to Think about your experience…

Can you guess invasive species for the Creek:
1.  A plant that may be a priority?
2. An Animal?

1.  Plant- Does this look familiar?

You may find it creates large walls of dense thickets that block your access to waterways & trails. – And then, of course they are covered in sharp thorns!

2. Animal- invasive. Have you seen one of these?

Yes, it’s the European rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus). Spotted any population increasing on Granville Island?
These are domestic rabbits abandoned by pet owners. So why shouldn’t we see these only as a cute “Easter Bunny”?

• Eating – They can stop our native shrubs & trees regenerating.

• Shelter – Their underground habitats (warrens) cause land degradation, increase erosion. Can even cause tripping.
