False Creek has one natural island.

False!

False Creek has no natural islands. The island you’re looking at, “Habitat” Island, became the only true made island in it.

It was created during construction of the 2010 Olympic Village. It’s intended to compensate for habitat lost with building Olympic Village.

The Island was made up of 246 trees, 20,929 shrubs, 3,469 grass plantings! But first it had 60,000 cubic metres of rock, gravel, sand & boulders!

It is home to a wide variety of flora & fauna.
Remember, no dogs allowed!

But what about Granville Island you ask?
The “Island” was made by bringing in “filler”.

It is connected to the mainland. So, it is a peninsula.

Take Time To – Think about:

Intro/Basic

  • When can you cross without swimming?
Hint: Where can you find the tide times?
  • What’s a…
    • Flora? Spot one you can name on the Island?
Hint: Find one on the sign first
    • Fauna? Did you spot one you can name on the Island? (Trickier)
Hint: Also find one on the sign first.
Can you hear any? Can you make that sound?
